Whats a Chair Massage ?
Chair Massage has seen a rise in popularity due to its convenient accessibility into the office and public space.
The term "Chair Massage" describes the type of therapeutic massage that is performed while the client sits fully clothed in a specially designed chair for the task.
The obvious advantage in staying fully dressed is that the client can feel completely at ease and there is no need for oil's or creams.
Areas worked on whilst having a chair massage are the muscle groups in the neck, shoulders, back, arms and hands and the treatment typically lasts anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes.
As a therapeutic tool in the hands of a qualified massage therapist,
chair massage is useful in not only bringing the health benefits of massage to a wider audience but in also making it accessible into the office and public space.
Chair Massage is not suitable for sports or clinical massage therapies due to the need to have the patient lying prone, this is partially to help reduce spinal pressure during the treatment but also in the case of deep tissue massage treatments, muscle layers need to be accessible for the therapist to release trigger points or tissue adhesions and the muscles in the back are in constant tone whilst sitting upright.
The Sports & Clinical massage therapist may also need to use contact agents such as gel's, Lotions or Oils, as is the case when using Ultrasound equipment or other forms of
electrotherapy.
