Licensed practitioners will often use specific manual therapy techniques to manipulate your muscles and soft tissues and these are commonly used to treat headaches, back pain, neck pain and sports injuries.
Quite often the therapist will use slow stretching or pulling force, we call this method, Low velocity Technique (LVT).
Other methods include, Muscle Energy Technique (MET)
Soft Tissue Technique (STT) and Counter strain Technique (CST)
All techniques are performed using manual pressure in various ways to help restore you back to full health.
One effect is in helping reduce discomfort from muscle strains, the other is to help improve your range of movement by relaxing and stretching the very muscle fibres that are causing the problem in the first place.
When a muscle is held in a contracted state for too long it becomes dysfunctional tissue meaning, that the tissue does not permit the normal exchange of blood to circulate throughout its fibres, the result of this impairment can if left unchecked lead to knots, cramping, strains and tears, at the very least increased tension and pain.
